It was a tangled mess of iridescent cables and obsidian panels, ripped from the wreckage of a scout ship that had met a less-than-graceful end in the Siberian tundra. Anya, her brow furrowed in concentration, traced a glowing circuit with a gloved finger. Lena, ever the picture of calm, meticulously cross-referenced holographic schematics that flickered with alien script. Finn, predictably, was pacing near the doorway, his knuckles white as he gripped the hilt of a gladius forged from pure, condensed flame, a constant reminder of his own volatile power.

“Anything?” Anya’s voice was a low murmur, strained with fatigue. They had been at it for days, fueled by a grim determination and the dwindling hope that this hunk of extraterrestrial refuse held the key to understanding their enemy. The planet was still groaning under the weight of the core drain, tremors wracking cities and the sky frequently darkening with unnatural storms.

Kai grunted, tapping a series of commands into a jury-rigged console. “It’s… complex. Their energy distribution grid is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s almost organic, but… artificial. Like they’ve grown their technology.” He ran a hand through his perpetually messy dark hair. “But I think I’ve found a vulnerability. A harmonic resonance point.”
