The air in the makeshift command center, a repurposed geodesic dome humming with salvaged technology, crackled with more than just static. It thrummed with the unspoken tensions that had been simmering since their last, desperate encounter. Anya traced the condensation on her water canteen, her gaze fixed on the holographic projection of Earth’s ravaged surface. Each tremor, each seismic anomaly, felt like a personal wound.
“They’re accelerating,” Kai’s voice, sharp and laced with urgency, cut through the quiet. He gestured impatiently at a fluctuating energy reading on a nearby console. “The core drain. It’s not linear anymore. It’s… exponential.”
Finn slammed a fist onto the metal table, the sound echoing sharply. “Then we hit them harder. We don’t sit here theorizing while our planet bleeds.” His eyes, usually alight with a competitive fire, were clouded with a dangerous frustration.
