Felicia becomes a target, or at least a pawn, in the escalating war. Christopher's protective instincts surge, realizing his actions have endangered the one person who matters most.
The desert wind, a constant, dry caress against the skin, had become Christopher’s lullaby. It whispered tales of ambition, of fortunes made and lost under the indifferent gaze of the Vegas stars. But tonight, the wind carried a different melody, a low hum of unease that vibrated through the polished marble of his penthouse suite. Felicia, usually a beacon of calm, was restless. She paced the length of the expansive living room, her bare feet silent on the plush carpet, her brow furrowed in a way that tightened a knot in Christopher’s gut.
“Something’s wrong, Chris,” she murmured, her voice barely audible above the distant thrum of the city. “I can feel it.”
He watched her, the way the moonlight caught the delicate curve of her jaw, the way her eyes, usually so full of warmth, held a flicker of apprehension. He’d built this empire on a foundation of calculated risks, on reading the subtle shifts in the currents of power. And now, Felicia’s intuition, a force he’d come to trust more than any informant, was screaming danger.
