Chapter 6
Confronting the Jackal God
Maggie and Shirya race to Aktunaten's hidden stronghold, a place pulsating with dark energy. They find him on the precipice of completing the summoning ritual, the air thick with an unholy power and the guttural chanting of his followers. Aktunaten, powerful and arrogant, unleashes his magical forces upon them. Maggie, armed with her sharp wit, quick thinking, and a newfound, albeit clumsy, understanding of magical defense, fights alongside Shirya, whose mastery of ancient spells is breathtaking. The climax is a chaotic battle of wits and magic, a desperate struggle to disrupt the ritual before the canine-headed god of the underworld fully manifests. The fate of Egypt, and indeed the world, rests on two unlikely allies facing down an ancient evil.
The air crackled, not with the dry heat of the Egyptian desert, but with something far more potent, something that vibrated deep in Maggie’s bones. It was a symphony of wrongness, a discordant hum that made the fillings in her teeth ache. Shirya, her face etched with a grim determination that mirrored Maggie's own, gripped her arm. "This way, Maggie. Aktunaten's stronghold is within this ravine."
Maggie, despite the gnawing fear that had taken root in her gut, managed a shaky grin. "Stronghold, huh? Sounds like a place where they serve stale bagels and bad coffee. My kind of joint." She stumbled slightly, catching herself on a jagged rock. "Damn it. See? Even the damn rocks are plotting against me."
Shirya, surprisingly, offered a small, tight smile. "Focus, Maggie. This is no joke."
