Chapter 8
A Bruising Encounter
A tough, physical game leaves Alex shaken. A minor injury, combined with aggressive play from opponents, forces him to confront the physical toll and mental strain of high-level competition.

From the opening tip, it was clear this was going to be a battle. Every rebound was contested with a forearm shiver, every drive to the basket met with a wall of determined defenders. Alex felt the first real jolt when a Raven forward, a hulking presence named Marcus, used his shoulder to drive Alex into the baseline barricade. The impact sent a jolt up his spine, but he scrambled back into the play, the adrenaline masking the immediate sting.
