The squeak of sneakers on polished wood had always been Alex’s solace, a familiar rhythm that had, for a while, felt discordant. But as he stepped onto the court for practice that Tuesday, a different melody sang in his ears. It wasn't just the thud of the ball or the sharp commands of Coach Miller; it was the quiet hum of genuine enjoyment, a feeling he’d almost forgotten how to access. He’d spent the last few days replaying Coach Miller’s words, Sarah’s gentle encouragement, and the simple, unburdened joy he’d felt as a kid just messing around with a ball. He’d seen the spark dim, the natural brilliance dulled by expectation. But today, the spark had reignited, burning brighter than ever. Alex was moving with a freedom that Coach Miller hadn't witnessed since those early, unburdened days. He was making plays not just with his head, but with his heart.
