The Glass Between
I can see You but You can't see Me I can't reach You You can't reach Me I can hear You can You hear Me..the glass between seen yet unseen ..
The air in Amy’s study had grown heavy, not with the oppressive weight of dust and decay, but with a peculiar, shimmering stillness. It was the quiet that precedes a storm, or perhaps, the quiet that follows one. She had charted the ebbs and flows of her grief, traced the contours of her lost loves, and even dared to whisper to the spectral presences that haunted her memory. She had wrestled with the ‘gilded cage,’ seen its bars weaken, and felt the first tentative beat of her raven wings against the wind. Now, a new sensation settled upon her, a profound awareness of separation, not of the soul, but of the senses. It was a feeling of being on the precipice, of observing a world that was both intimately familiar and impossibly distant.
She found herself drawn to a stack of manuscripts that felt lighter, less saturated with the raw pigments of her past sorrow. These were poems born from a more recent, yet no less potent, ache. They spoke of a love, a connection, that existed just beyond her reach, a presence felt but not seen, heard but not truly answered. The ‘glass between’—that was the phrase that echoed in her mind, a fragile barrier that separated her from a world she longed to fully inhabit, and perhaps, from a person who inhabited her thoughts with an almost spectral persistence.
Amy selected a sheaf of papers, their edges softened not by time alone, but by the frequent tracing of her fingertips. The ink here was darker, more urgent, as if scrawled in haste to capture a fleeting moment.
