The initial unease, stoked by the slick, anonymous pamphlets that had appeared overnight, began to give way to a different kind of conversation. It was Lena, with her knack for cutting through noise and speaking directly to people's hearts, who first noticed the change.

She was at the Oakhaven farmer's market, a weekly ritual she’d stuck to even during the most stressful periods, picking out plump, sun-ripened tomatoes. An older woman, Mrs. Gable, the owner of the local bakery, approached her, her hands dusted with flour. "Lena, dear," she began, her voice warm and steady, "I saw one of those flyers. Lena braced herself, ready for the usual defensive stance. But Mrs. Gable’s next words were a surprise. "Now, I don't know much about science, but I know what I see.
