Then, a sound. Not the rustle of leaves or the chirp of birds, but a low, guttural hiss that seemed to emanate from the very earth beneath them. It was a sound that twisted in their bellies, a primal echo of their newfound fear. From the shadows of a newly unfurled fern, it emerged. The serpent. It moved with a fluidity that was both mesmerizing and terrifying, its scales catching the dappled sunlight like shards of obsidian. It was no longer a creature of subtle allure, but a coiled embodiment of venom and deceit. Its eyes, once perhaps bright with curiosity, now gleamed with a cold, ancient malice. It spoke, its voice a dry rasp that scraped against their frayed nerves.

"Why do you hide, children of the dust?" The words slithered through the air, laced with a mockery that pierced their fragile defenses. "Does the Creator seek to chastise you for embracing the very essence He withheld?"
