Chapter 15
The General's Ultimatum
General Julius, seeing the kingdom on the brink of civil war, confronts Chrisias. He presents the dire state of the kingdom and warns of rebellion, but the King dismisses his concerns as lack of faith.
The air in the royal audience chamber was thick with an unspoken tension, a palpable weight that pressed down on the ornate tapestries depicting scenes of past triumphs. Sunlight, usually a cheerful visitor, slanted through the high windows in dusty beams, illuminating the grim set of General Julius’s jaw. He stood before the throne, his armor polished to a mirror shine, a stark contrast to the weariness etched around his eyes. Behind him, the hushed murmur of the court felt like the rustling of dry leaves, a prelude to a storm.

His gaze was fixed on some unseen point beyond the chamber walls, his hands clasped loosely in his lap, fingers intertwined as if holding onto a fragile thread. The weight of his crown seemed to rest more lightly than the burden of his devotion.
“Your Majesty,” Julius began, his voice a low rumble that nonetheless cut through the silence. He chose his words with the precision of a seasoned tactician, each syllable weighed for its impact. “I have come to you with grave tidings.”
