Prince Cestro, seeing an opportunity, begins subtly grooming the young heir, Prince Alaric, to be more receptive to his influence. Berenike notices this and becomes increasingly worried about her son's future.

The polished marble of the royal nursery gleamed under the soft, filtered sunlight, a stark contrast to the brewing storm in Queen Berenike’s heart. Prince Alaric, barely seven summers old, sat cross-legged on an embroidered rug, his small brow furrowed in concentration as he traced the intricate patterns of a gilded tapestry. Beside him, his spiritual advisor, Prince Cestro, spoke in hushed, resonant tones, his voice a silken thread weaving through the quiet air. Berenike, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles were white, watched from the doorway, a knot of unease tightening with every word.

“And so, my young prince,” Cestro was saying, his gaze fixed on Alaric, “the Lord’s will is paramount. It is a sacred flame that must be tended, even when the winds of the world seek to extinguish it.” He gestured with a long, slender finger towards a depiction of a martyr’s fiery end. “See here, how the righteous man embraced his suffering, for in his pain, he found true glory. Such is the path of devotion, a path your noble father walks with such unwavering grace.”

Alaric nodded, his eyes wide. “Father… he sees God’s face, doesn’t he, Prince Cestro?”
