Lyra sat across from him, her gaze fixed on the swirling nebulae outside the viewport, a tapestry of cosmic dust and nascent stars. The Crystal of Aethel, nestled safely in its protective casing on the console between them, pulsed with a faint, internal light, a silent testament to their recent, hard-won victory. Yet, the victory felt hollow, a single step on a path that seemed to stretch into an abyss.
“You’re quiet,” Delan finally ventured, his voice softer than he intended.
Lyra turned, her eyes, the color of twilight, met his. A faint smile touched her lips, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. “Just… thinking.”
