Chapter 21: The Spiral
The group reunites on the empty street, processing Samira's choice and the loss of Chloe. As they rest in the quiet, Marcus notices a spiral cloud forming overhead. The spiral descends, revealing a silent, human-shaped figure made of light, and Samira feels a pull toward it.
They sat on the curb, the gray sky pressing down like a lid. Liam hadn't moved from his spot, his head still in his hands. Marcus, Elena, and Garcia stood a few feet away, watching Samira and Amir as if they might dissolve into the air.
Samira kept her hand open on her knee, staring at the pale skin where the mark had been. The emptiness inside her was still there—a hollow space where hope used to live—but it no longer ached. It was just a silence now.
“You broke it,” Marcus said. He wasn't asking. His voice was flat, tired.
