In the aftermath of sealing the gate, the group tends to Chloe, who has lost her voice. As they prepare to leave the chamber, a new crack opens in the floor, revealing a third gate and a chilling message that their journey is far from over.
The silence pressed down like a weight. Samira’s ears rang from the thunder of the gate closing, and the absence of the hum felt almost as loud. She blinked, her vision swimming. The chamber was empty. The creatures were gone. The pedestal lay cracked, the key vanished.
Chloe stood frozen, her lips moving soundlessly. Her hands trembled at her sides. Samira stepped toward her, reaching out. “Chloe? Can you hear me?”
Chloe’s eyes met hers. She nodded, but no sound came. Her mouth formed words—I’m here—but they died in her throat. She touched her neck, her face pale.
