Chapter 8
Julian's Steadfast Gaze
Julian witnesses Elara's struggle. Instead of judgment, he offers unwavering support. His belief in her empowers her, showing her that her past does not define her, and that his feelings are genuine and deep.
The biting wind whipped strands of hair across my face, stinging my cheeks. It was a familiar sensation, one I’d learned to endure, much like the gnawing emptiness in my stomach and the dull ache in my bones. Each day was a battle, a desperate scramble for survival. The alley was my kingdom, the discarded cardboard my throne, and the sympathetic glances of strangers, few and far between, my only currency. His features were sharp, defined, with eyes that held an unnerving depth, a quiet intensity that seemed to pierce through the grime and the years of hardship clinging to me. He didn't flinch at my appearance, didn't recoil in disgust. Instead, he simply looked. It was a look that held no judgment, no pity, only a profound, almost unnerving, curiosity.
