Chapter 19
March to the Capital
With a united force and a clear purpose, Anya leads her army towards the capital. The final confrontation with Lord Valerius is imminent.
The air thrummed with a new energy, a vibrant hum that had been absent for so long. Anya, mounted on a sturdy mare whose coat gleamed like polished obsidian, felt it in her very bones. It wasn't just the press of her people, a growing tide of determined faces stretching as far as the eye could see, but something deeper, a resonance with the land itself. The wind, usually a capricious whisper, seemed to carry their purpose, rustling through the banners that bore the now-familiar, yet still potent, royal crest. Anya had seen the subtle shift in Elara too, a quiet pride blooming where once there had been only a desperate need for survival. They were no longer just fleeing; they were advancing.
"They're ready, Anya," Kael said, his voice a low rumble that carried easily in the crisp air. "The villages we passed through, they've sent their best. Farmers who can wield a pitchfork like a spear, blacksmiths whose hammers can shatter stone, and hunters whose arrows never miss their mark. They believe in you."
