I sat in the quiet of my small chamber, a space that felt both too grand and too confining after the simple freedom of my village hut. The Hungwe Queen, my aunt, had summoned me, not with the warmth of family, but with the sharp precision of a hawk assessing its prey. Her eyes, like polished obsidian, had scanned me from head to toe, missing nothing of my disheveled state, the lingering fear in my gaze, the raw grief that clung to me like a second skin.

"Tariro," she had begun, her voice a silken whip, "you have brought shame upon the Hungwe name."
