Against all odds, Tafara and Tariro find each other. Their reunion is bittersweet, filled with relief and joy, but tinged with the harsh realities of their kingdoms' continued animosity.

The air itself seemed to hum with a desperate, electric tension as I pushed through the dense foliage, my heart a frantic drum against my ribs. Each rustle of leaves, each snap of a twig, sent a jolt through me, a mixture of terror and a wild, burgeoning hope. Days had bled into weeks, weeks into a blur of dusty trails and whispered rumors, all fueled by a single, burning image: Tariro’s face, etched with fear the last time I’d seen her. The betrayal had cut deep, a festering wound that left me hollowed out, but it had also ignited a fire within that refused to be extinguished. I would find her. I had to.

The whispered directions from that old woman in the market, the one with eyes like polished obsidian, had been my only guide. “Follow the setting sun until it kisses the weeping mountain,” she’d rasped, her voice like dry leaves skittering across stone. “Then seek the place where the river weeps tears of silver.” It was cryptic, maddeningly so, but it was all I had. And so, I had followed. I had ridden my swiftest horse until its legs were raw, then I had walked, my own feet blistered and bleeding, a mirror of the pain in my soul.

And then, I saw it. A clearing, bathed in the soft, ethereal glow of twilight. And by the river, its waters shimmering with an almost supernatural luminescence, sat a figure. A lone figure, her back to me, her shoulders hunched as if against an invisible weight. My breath caught in my throat. The curve of her neck, the fall of her dark, lustrous hair… it was her. It had to be.
