The damp earth clung to my boots, a muddy testament to the hours I'd spent lost in the embrace of the woods. The air, thick with the scent of pine needles and decaying leaves, had a way of muffling the outside world, of drawing you into its quiet, ancient rhythm. And there, nestled amongst a tangle of overgrown ferns and young saplings, it sat. The truck. Not just any truck, but *the* truck. My heart, a clumsy drummer in my chest, began to pound a frantic beat against my ribs.

It was a 1950 Ford F150, or what was left of one. Rust had become its primary color, a weeping, mottled shroud that clung to every surface. The tires were flat, cracked like ancient desert earth, and the once proud grille was a skeletal grin, missing teeth and distorted by time. Yet, even in its dilapidated state, there was an undeniable presence about it. A phantom strength, a whisper of a past life lived with purpose.

I’d stumbled upon it purely by accident, a detour taken on a whim during one of my aimless wanderings. Usually, these walks were about clearing my head, about letting the rustling leaves and the dappled sunlight wash over me. But this time, it was different. This time, I found something. Something that snagged my attention with the tenacity of a burr on wool.
