The salt of memory stung Akko’s eyes, a phantom brine in the endless expanse of what felt like a forgotten ocean. Each wave that lapped at her feet was a whisper, a sigh, a fragment of a life that was both hers and not. The broken clocks, half-submerged like drowned sentinels, ticked with the phantom rhythm of moments lost, moments stolen. She remembered the chill of the dungeon, the desperate crawl through gore and debris, the singular, burning purpose: Inia. To free her, to tear Laplace from the girl’s tormented core, to end the shared agony. How naive. How utterly, tragically naive.

Her breath hitched, a ragged sound swallowed by the vast, indifferent quiet. The confession, the desperate plea of love that had spilled from her lips in the aftermath of Inia’s rejection. Inia’s laughter, sharp and cruel, a sound that still echoed in the hollow spaces of Akko’s soul. Then the summoning, the raw, unholy power of Lapacrentreos unleashed, not just against Akko, but against them. And in that shattering instant, Laplace had ripped itself free, a shimmering, malevolent entity manifesting before their eyes.

The blade. Oh, the blade. A brutal, elegant arc that had cleaved through both of them, through their very essence. The ventiseneme wolves, their maws dripping with spectral ichor, had torn at their souls, dragging them, along with Laplace, into this endless yellow labyrinth. Souls. They had been souls then, stripped of flesh, unable to fight, unable to die. And in that place of infinite, muted suffering, Akko’s rage had dissolved, replaced by a chilling, profound sorrow.
