Chapter 5
Arcade Anomaly
Shattering the walls transports them to a derelict arcade. Amidst broken machines, they discover a glitch in reality, a tear that pulls them into another unknown dimension.
The sound of splintering wood and crumbling plaster filled the air, an acrid perfume of destruction. Akko and Inia, two souls adrift in a storm of their own making, found themselves hurled from the stark, suffocating confines of the white room. It wasn't a gentle transition, no soft landing into a new reality. Instead, it was a violent expulsion, a cosmic hiccup that spat them out onto a grimy, linoleum floor. Dust motes, thick as fog, swirled in the faint, flickering light that managed to penetrate the grime-streaked windows.
They landed amidst a graveyard of forgotten joys, a mausoleum of flashing lights and synthesized melodies. An arcade. But not one of vibrant energy and eager patrons. This was a forgotten relic, a tomb of entertainment. Machines stood silent, their screens cracked, their buttons missing, their once-gleaming facades dulled by years of neglect. The air hung heavy with the scent of ozone, stale popcorn, and something else, something metallic and sharp, like the tang of old blood.
Akko pushed herself up, her limbs protesting, a dull ache resonating through her bones. She scanned the desolate landscape, her heart a leaden weight in her chest. Inia, always the more impulsive, was already on her feet, her eyes wide, taking in the bizarre tableau. The manic energy that had fueled her wall-breaking frenzy seemed to have dissipated, replaced by a bewildered curiosity.
