The air in the penthouse suite was thick with the cloying scent of expensive cologne and something else, something ancient and musky, like dust disturbed in a tomb. Elias Thorne, leaning against the polished mahogany bar, felt a familiar unease prickle his skin. It wasn't the opulence that unsettled him – he'd seen enough of it in his fleeting flashes of other lives – but the palpable weight of unspoken promises, of deals struck in shadows.

Malakor, a man whose charm was as sharp and dangerous as a shard of obsidian, swirled a tumbler of amber liquid, the ice clinking like tiny, mocking bells. His smile was a practiced curve of the lips, revealing teeth that seemed just a shade too white, too perfect. "You have a gift, Elias," he purred, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in Elias's chest. "A rare and potent gift. One that deserves to be… amplified."

Elias met his gaze, a flicker of defiance in his own. He’d felt it, the strange resonance within him, the way music could bend the air, could stir something deep and primal. He’d dismissed it, for a time, as a musician's heightened sensitivity. But the echoes, the persistent whispers of ‘having been here before,’ were growing louder, more insistent.
