The air in the penthouse suite was thick with the cloying scent of expensive perfume and something else, something richer, darker, like overripe fruit on the verge of decay. Elias leaned against the cool glass of the balcony, the vibrant, pulsing heart of Las Vegas laid out beneath him like a glittering, malevolent jewel. Each flashing sign, each distant siren, seemed to whisper his name, a siren song of promises and peril. He’d felt it before, this suffocating weight of knowing, this chilling echo of paths already trod. It was a phantom limb, a memory of a life he couldn’t quite grasp, but whose residue clung to him like the smoke from a thousand forgotten cigarettes.

Izzy, a vision in emerald silk that clung to her like a second skin, moved through the room with an predatory grace. Her laughter, a tinkling cascade of ice, was a counterpoint to the low thrum of the music Elias had been playing earlier, a melody that now felt tainted, corrupted by the opulence and the unspoken desires that swirled around them. She was the embodiment of everything he was supposed to resist, the very essence of the earthly pleasures Malakor dangled before him like forbidden fruit. And Elias, despite his growing unease, despite Seraphina’s fervent warnings, found himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

“You’re quiet tonight, Thorne,” Izzy purred, her voice a silken caress as she joined him on the balcony. She smelled of jasmine and something wilder, something that stirred a primal ache deep within him. “Lost in the music? Or lost in the view?”
