The drive back to Tyler’s house was slow, the afternoon sun casting long shadows across the road. Dylan kept his eyes ahead, but his mind was racing. Telling Tyler’s parents felt like the next impossible step, but Tyler had insisted. “They’ll find out eventually,” he had said, his voice tired but steady. “Better to get it over with.”
Tyler’s house was a modest two-story on a quiet street, just three doors down from Dylan’s. They had grown up here, throwing snowballs at each other’s windows, racing their bikes to the corner, and screaming insults across the lawn. Now, Dylan helped Tyler out of the car, his hand firm on Tyler’s elbow. Tyler leaned into him for just a second, then straightened, pulling away.
