Chapter 4
Nature's Art
In her happy place, Lily draws the beautiful flowers and the water. She watches tiny bugs and listens to the birds. Drawing makes her feel calm and lets her capture the magic.
The warm sun kissed Lily’s cheeks as she settled onto a mossy patch of ground, Mr. Snuggles tucked snugly beside her. The air in her secret grove hummed with a different kind of music than the park outside – the gentle whisper of leaves, the soft gurgle of the sparkling stream, and the chirping melodies of unseen birds. It was a symphony of peace, a lullaby for her busy mind. She opened her sketchbook, its pages crisp and inviting, and picked up her favorite colored pencils.
“This is for you, Mr. Snuggles,” she whispered, her voice barely disturbing the quiet. “We’re going to draw all the wonderful things we see.” Mr. Snuggles, with his button eyes and perpetually stitched smile, seemed to nod in agreement. He was the perfect listener, never interrupting, always just being there.
Lily’s gaze swept over the vibrant tapestry of the grove. Wildflowers, in shades of violet, sunshine yellow, and delicate pink, dotted the emerald green grass like scattered jewels. She dipped her pencil in imagination and began to sketch. First, a plump bumblebee, fuzzy and round, hovering near a cluster of purple clover. She carefully shaded its wings, trying to capture the iridescent shimmer she saw in the sunlight. Then, she moved to the flowers, their petals unfurling like tiny dancers. She chose a bright orange poppy, its paper-thin petals a challenge to render, but she persevered, her brow furrowed in concentration.
