Chapter 4
Sarah's Shadow
Alex's investigation draws the attention of Sarah Chen, a sharp operative from 'The Architects.' She initially obstructs his progress, her motives unclear. Alex suspects she's a key player in the conspiracy.
The city was a symphony of noise, a thousand discordant notes played out on a grand, decaying stage. Sirens wailed in the distance, a constant thrum beneath the rumble of traffic and the murmur of a million lives lived out in blissful ignorance. I navigated the throng, the weight of Dr. Reed’s cryptic message a leaden albatross around my neck. They’re not just watching. They’re planning. The cure is the disease. The words, scrawled in a trembling hand on a nearly blank USB drive, had been my only lead, a single flicker in the suffocating darkness of a conspiracy I was only just beginning to comprehend.

My lead had brought me to a nondescript café tucked away in a less-trafficked corner of downtown. The air inside was thick with the aroma of burnt coffee and stale pastries, a stark contrast to the sterile efficiency of the data centers I'd been trawling. According to the fragmented intel I’d managed to piece together, a meeting was scheduled here, a casual exchange that might, if I was lucky, offer a sliver of insight into the shadowy organization known only as ‘The Architects.’
