The afternoon sun, a relentless golden eye, beat down upon the sprawling palace complex, its heat a palpable presence even within the cool, marble halls. Princess Amira Al-Ashira, twin to the radiant Layla, traced the intricate patterns of a tapestry with a languid finger, her gaze fixed not on the woven scene of desert conquest, but on the distant, heavily guarded entrance to the royal wing. A faint sigh escaped her lips, a sound swallowed by the hushed opulence. Layla, her sister, her mirror image in so many ways, possessed a light that drew every eye, including, Amira’s heart ached to admit, the gaze of the man who had stolen Amira’s own.

He was dressed in the crisp, understated uniform of a high-ranking military official, a stark anomaly amongst the flowing robes and ornate embellishments of the palace guard. His dark hair was neatly trimmed, his jawline sharp and clean-shaven, a deliberate contrast to the bearded men who typically populated their lives. Beside him, a shadow of immense power, padded Reaper, the German Shepherd, his massive head held high, his intelligent eyes scanning their surroundings with unwavering vigilance. The dog was an extension of Jack, a silent, formidable guardian.
