Shayne stands at a precipice, torn between addictive habits and the sincere desire to repent. The path to God feels daunting, but she knows a choice must be made before it's too late.
Shayne traced the rim of her teacup, the warmth seeping into her fingertips. Outside, the afternoon sun dappled through the leaves of the old oak tree in her backyard, casting dancing shadows on the worn picnic table where she sat with Hannah. The air was thick with the scent of honeysuckle, a sweet perfume that usually made Shayne feel light and carefree. Today, however, a knot of unease tightened in her stomach.
Hannah, with her quiet grace, was recounting a story from the book of Revelation, her voice a soft melody that wove through the rustling leaves. "And the city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God illuminated it. Its light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal." Hannah’s eyes, the color of warm honey, sparkled as she spoke, and Shayne could almost see the city she described, a place of unimaginable beauty and peace, bathed in a light that was more than just light. It was love. It was God.
A sigh escaped Shayne’s lips, a sound barely audible above the chirping of crickets. Hannah paused, her gaze gentle. "What troubles you, Shayne?"
