The city’s pulse was a familiar rhythm, a comforting thrum beneath my feet as I walked home. But tonight, it felt… off. A discordant note in the symphony of my ordinary life. It began subtly, a prickle on the back of my neck, the unsettling sensation of eyes tracing my every movement. I’d dismissed it at first, chalking it up to the late hour and the lingering unease from Rhys’s cryptic words. But the feeling persisted, a persistent hum of awareness that refused to fade.

Glancing over my shoulder, I scanned the deepening twilight. Streetlights flickered on, casting long, distorted shadows that danced with the wind. A lone figure leaned against a lamppost across the street, a silhouette against the encroaching darkness. They were too still, too focused, their posture radiating an unnerving stillness. As I quickened my pace, the figure shifted, their head turning to follow me. My heart leaped into my throat. It wasn’t Rhys. This was different. This felt… predatory.

I ducked into a small, brightly lit convenience store, pretending to browse the shelves, my reflection a frantic blur in the glass. Through the window, I saw the figure pause, then continue their slow, deliberate walk, disappearing around the corner. A wave of relief washed over me, quickly followed by a chilling realization: I was being watched. And whoever it was, they weren't casual observers.
