The air in the small, dusty room felt thick with unspoken words, each particle of dust a tiny testament to the passage of time and the secrets it held. My fingers traced the worn leather of the journal, its pages brittle with age, a stark contrast to the smooth, polished surface of the table before me. Rhys stood across from me, his usual charm replaced by a grim resolve that tightened the lines around his eyes. The confession, when it finally came, was a slow, deliberate unraveling, each word a carefully placed stone in the foundation of a truth I was only just beginning to comprehend.

“You’ve been watching me,” I stated, the accusation a raw tremor in my voice. It wasn't a question. The evidence, laid out in stark, undeniable detail, spoke for itself. The anonymous notes, the ‘chance’ encounters, the subtle nudges that had guided me, step by hesitant step, towards this very room, towards this very moment.

Rhys didn't deny it. He met my gaze, his own a turbulent sea of emotions I couldn’t quite decipher. “Yes, Elara. I have.” His voice was low, a rumble that vibrated through the stillness. “From the moment I received the first whisper of your existence.”
