The air in the abandoned warehouse was thick with the scent of dust and decay, a smell that clung to my lungs like a shroud. Each creaking floorboard under my boots was a drumbeat of my own racing heart. He stood silhouetted against the sliver of moonlight that pierced the grimy windowpanes, his posture relaxed, almost nonchalant, a stark contrast to the knot of dread tightening in my stomach. He looked as he always did: impossibly handsome, his dark hair slightly mussed, his eyes, even in the dim light, holding an unnerving intensity. But tonight, that charm felt like a thin veneer over something far more complex, far more dangerous.

"You came," he stated, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the concrete floor. There was no surprise in it, only a quiet certainty.
