The Second Gate's Riddle
Master Chronos leads Elara to the Second Gate, hidden within a library of forgotten histories. Its guardian, a stoic historian, tests Elara's wisdom and her understanding of consequence.
The air in Master Chronos's study always smelled of old paper and something akin to starlight. Today, it felt different, charged with a quiet hum that tickled the back of my neck. He stirred from his usual place beside the crackling hearth, his movements slow but deliberate, like a great oak bending in a gentle breeze.
"The first gate," he began, his voice a low rumble, "was a lesson in noticing. A lesson in the smallest ripples. The second gate," he paused, his ancient eyes meeting mine, "is a lesson in understanding. In consequence."
He gestured towards a grand, ornate door I’d never noticed before, tucked away in a shadowed alcove of the study. It wasn’t made of wood or stone, but of shimmering, shifting light, like captured moonlight woven into a solid form. Strange symbols, like constellations I’d only seen in dreams, pulsed softly across its surface.
