The air around the Fourth Gate shimmered, not with the gentle hum of balanced energy, but with a frantic, discordant vibration that made my teeth ache. It was a sound that felt wrong, like a song played backward, a melody of broken moments. Silas. His touch was everywhere here, a cold, grasping influence that had twisted the Gate’s simple purpose into something jagged and sharp. Master Chronos stood beside me, his ancient eyes fixed on the swirling chaos, a deep sadness etched into the lines of his face.
"He seeks to unravel the weave," Master Chronos murmured, his voice barely a whisper against the Gate’s unsettling thrum. "To tear it apart and re-stitch it in his own image. But time is not a tapestry to be re-woven by mortal hands, Elara."
I swallowed, my throat dry. The weight of his words pressed down on me, heavier than any stone. This Gate, the Fourth, was supposed to be about quiet contemplation, about seeing the subtle connections between things, the way a falling leaf could influence the wind a mile away. Now, it was a storm of fractured reflections, of moments overlapping and bleeding into each other. I saw glimpses of myself, younger, older, running through fields that didn’t exist, hearing whispers that were just out of reach. Anya’s face flickered in and out of existence, her smile turning to a worried frown, then back again.
