The air in the Third Gate’s realm felt thick, like breathing in cobwebs. It wasn’t a place of stone or soil, but of shimmering surfaces, endless reflections that stretched and warped into impossible shapes. Master Chronos had called it the Gate of Clarity, but all I saw were mirrors, and they were showing me the ugliest things.

“Remember, Elara,” Master Chronos’s voice, usually a steady whisper, seemed to echo from everywhere and nowhere at once, “this gate does not show you what *is*, but what *could be*, or what *you believe to be*. Your own mind is the key, and your own doubts, the lock.”

I took a shaky breath, my reflection staring back at me, wide-eyed and pale. In one mirror, I saw myself tripping, dropping the glowing orb Master Chronos had given me. In another, I saw Anya, her face etched with worry, her hand reaching out, but I was too far away to grasp it. Then, a darker reflection flickered into existence – a shadowy figure, much like Silas, its eyes burning with a cold light, its hand reaching for me. My heart hammered against my ribs.
