The air in the dormitory was thick with the scent of drying uniforms and the hushed murmur of shared secrets. Scovia, ever the pragmatist, was meticulously folding her shirts, her brow furrowed in concentration. I, on the other hand, was staring out the window, the familiar school grounds stretching before me, now imbued with a profound sense of loss. Kai was gone. The words felt alien, a foreign language my heart refused to translate. Just yesterday, his laughter had echoed through the quad, his presence a vibrant hue in the tapestry of my high school life. Now, only the lingering ghost of his scent, a phantom warmth on the breeze, remained.

"You're going to wear a hole in the glass, Elara," Scovia said, her voice soft but firm. She didn't need to ask what was wrong. My silence, my vacant stare, spoke volumes.

I finally turned, a shaky breath escaping my lips. "He's really gone, Scovi. Just like that."
