The air in the dormitory buzzed with a different kind of energy now, one that was less about the thrill of new beginnings and more about the quiet hum of established routines. My S.3 world, once a vibrant tapestry of possibility, had become a canvas upon which a single, magnificent splash of color had appeared: Kai. He was S.6, a realm of whispered legends and formidable intellects, a world I’d only imagined from afar. Yet, here he was, a tangible presence, and my heart, that foolish, fluttering thing, had taken flight.
Scovia, ever the pragmatist, would roll her eyes if she heard me talk like this. "Phiona, he's two years ahead of you! You're practically in different universes." But she didn't see the way his gaze, when it occasionally landed on me, seemed to hold a flicker of recognition, a silent acknowledgement that transcended our differing academic spheres. It was in those fleeting moments, the stolen glances across crowded hallways, the briefest of nods as we passed, that my hope took root and began to blossom.
I’d started small. A strategically placed book left open on a bench he frequented, its pages filled with my scribbled notes on topics I knew he excelled in. A lingering smile as I passed his study group, hoping to catch his eye. I even began to linger near the S.6 common room, feigning interest in the notice boards, my senses on high alert for the sound of his voice. It was a ridiculous, almost childish pursuit, I knew. But the thought of him, the sheer magnetic pull he exerted, made me brave, made me daring.
