Chapter 11
A Race Against Time
They now are in hiding after Trevor's daughter is captured and start seeing people have already been injected the missing people were tests and now programmed to hunt seek and kill or bring them both in.
The sterile white walls of the safe house felt like a cage. Emma traced the condensation on the water glass, the chill seeping into her fingertips mirroring the ice in her veins. Outside, the world was a symphony of normalcy, but here, in this borrowed silence, the discordant notes of their reality screamed. Trevor sat hunched over a laptop, his usual cocky swagger replaced by a grim tension that pulled at the corners of his mouth. Penny’s favourite stuffed rabbit, a lopsided thing with one button eye, lay on the table between them, a silent testament to their stolen peace.

The missing persons, the ones Trevor had been chasing before their paths converged, hadn’t vanished. They had been taken. Tested. And now, they were not only programmed but weaponized.
Trevor ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. “Nothing concrete. Just… chatter. Anomalies in the network traffic around the time Penny was… apprehended. Like a ghost in the machine, deliberately trying to be invisible.” He slammed the laptop shut with a frustrated sigh. “They’re good, Emma. Damn good. They anticipated us. They anticipated everything.”
