Chapter 10
A Fleeting Act of Kindness
Eli shares a stolen moment of empathy with one of the girls, a silent acknowledgment of their shared plight. This small act of defiance offers a sliver of hope amidst the darkness.

But inside, a storm raged. The memory of William’s terrified eyes, the sickening thud that followed, the chilling finality of Stephon’s words – they were a constant loop, replaying with agonizing clarity.
