Marianne traced the faded inscription on a brittle scroll, her brow furrowed. Adrian, ever the picture of serene observation, leaned against a towering bookshelf, his gaze drifting over the chaotic sprawl of scattered documents. Gordon, a perpetual storm cloud, paced a tight circuit near the entrance, his arms crossed, a low rumble of impatience emanating from him. Erica, her Steel magic a silent, comforting presence, sat at a sturdy oak table, meticulously piecing together fragmented maps.
“Still nothing?” Gordon’s voice was a gravelly whisper, a stark contrast to the hushed sanctity of the library.
Erica shook her head, her expression grim. “Just more whispers. Fragments of prophecy, veiled threats. The usual.” She tapped a finger against a torn page. “But this section… it speaks of a great injustice, a loss that festered.”
