The air thrummed with a dangerous energy, a tangible tension that vibrated against Marianne’s skin. Dust motes danced in the shafts of pale sunlight that pierced the shattered remnants of what had once been a bustling marketplace. Twisted metal girders, once proud architectural statements, now lay like broken bones, testament to the brutal efficiency of their attackers. Around them, the faint, acrid scent of decay, a lingering echo of Poison Ninja’s insidious magic, clung to the air.

“Stay close!” Erica’s voice, usually calm and measured, held a sharp edge of urgency. She stood at the forefront of their small, beleaguered group, her stance a picture of unyielding resolve. Her hands were outstretched, palms facing outwards, and between them shimmered a wall of pure, unadulterated steel. It wasn't a solid, monolithic barrier, but rather a fluid, almost liquid metal that rippled and flowed, absorbing the impacts of the relentless barrage of acidic projectiles being hurled at them.

Each impact sent a shudder through the steel, a metallic groan that threatened to buckle its integrity. Marianne flinched with every near miss, the sickly green goo splattering against the shimmering defense, hissing and dissolving into harmless vapor. Beside her, Adrian was a picture of focused calm, his movements economical as he conjured small, concentrated bursts of water to douse stray embers that threatened to ignite the dry debris. Gordon, ever the contrarian, grumbled under his breath, his hands encased in crackling frost, ready to unleash a blast of freezing air if the steel wall faltered.
