The air hung thick and cloying, a sickly sweet miasma that clung to the back of Marianne’s throat. It tasted of decay, of things that should have been buried but were instead festering. This was the Poisoned Lands, a testament to Poison Ninja’s insidious reach, a place where life itself seemed to recoil. His Ice magic, usually so crisp and clean, seemed dulled here, the usual invigorating chill replaced by a damp, clammy cold that did little to cut through the oppressive stench. He shot a pointed look at Marianne. “Perhaps if we hadn’t dawdled, we wouldn’t be wading through this filth.”
