The air crackled, not with the usual playful static of a summer storm, but with a raw, untamed energy that prickled Marianne’s skin. It was the kind of energy that felt like a live wire, threatening to snap and unleash something terrible. Beside her, Gordon Jameson radiated a similar, albeit colder, intensity. His presence was like a glacial wind, sharp and unforgiving, a stark contrast to the fiery aura that seemed to cling to Marianne like a second skin. They stood on opposite sides of a desolate training ground, a scorched patch of earth that bore the scars of their previous, less controlled, encounters.

“Are you ready, Cradlesong?” Gordon’s voice was a low growl, laced with an impatience that mirrored the simmering frustration bubbling within Marianne. He didn’t wait for an answer, his hand already clenching, frost beginning to bloom on the ground at his feet.

Marianne’s jaw tightened. “As I’ll ever be, Jameson.” Her own hands instinctively curled into fists, a faint warmth radiating from her palms. She could feel the familiar, eager thrum of her Fire element, a hungry beast eager to be unleashed. But it was a beast she still struggled to tame, a wild force that threatened to consume her as much as it promised power.
