Chapter 5
Kael's Doubt and Loyalty
Elara's friend Kael, ever practical, is worried. He doesn't understand the magic but pledges to protect Elara, his loyalty a steady rhythm.
Kael watched Elara from the edge of the village square, his brow furrowed with a familiar blend of admiration and unease. The air around her hummed, not with the usual cheerful chatter of the market stalls or the distant bleating of sheep, but with a subtle, shimmering resonance. It was the same magic that had coaxed the wilted moonpetal flowers back to vibrant life just yesterday, the same magic that had mended the cracked clay jug with a gentle, tinkling melody. Elara, her fingers dancing over the intricate pads of her Resonator, was weaving a tapestry of sound that made the very air feel lighter, brighter.

It felt like threads of light spun into existence, bending reality in ways he couldn’t quite grasp. He was a stonecutter’s son; his world was built on solid foundations, on the satisfying heft of a hammer and the precise angle of a chisel. This ethereal music, while beautiful, felt untethered, precarious.
“She’s doing it again,” whispered Lyra, a girl no older than Elara, her eyes wide with wonder. “Look, Kael, the colors are so much brighter when she plays.”
