The Whispering Peaks
They ascend the Peaks, the air growing heavy with unspoken grief. Strange, discordant notes echo from the heights, beckoning Elara.
The air grew thin and sharp as Elara, Kael, and Elder Maeve began their ascent into the Whispering Peaks. Gone were the familiar, comforting melodies of their village, replaced by a stillness that felt as heavy as a forgotten promise. With every upward step, the world seemed to exhale a sigh of ancient sorrow, a sound that resonated not in their ears, but deep within their bones. The vibrant greens and blues of the lower valleys had muted, as if the very colors were being leached away by an invisible hand, leaving behind a palette of hushed grays and muted earth tones.
"It feels… sadder here, doesn't it?" Elara whispered, her fingers instinctively tracing the cool, smooth surface of her Resonator, which hung nestled in a soft pouch at her side. Even through the fabric, she could feel its quiet hum, a counterpoint to the growing quietude around them.
Elder Maeve nodded, her gaze fixed on the rugged, imposing silhouette of the peaks against the pale sky. "The Peaks hold the echoes of great change, child. Some echoes are joyful, like the first sunrise. Others… are not. The Discord’s sorrow has settled here, like mist on a cold morning."
