Chapter 5
Building Bridges, Not Towers
Lalito apologizes sincerely to his friends. He wants to fix things! He suggests they rebuild the tower together, maybe even bigger and better. His friends agree, happy to work as a team again.
Lalito’s heart felt like a heavy stone in his chest. He looked at the scattered wooden blocks, the colorful shapes that had once been Leo’s magnificent tower, and a wave of shame washed over him. His mane felt droopy, and his tail tucked itself between his legs. He’d been so excited, so caught up in the fun of chasing a bouncy red ball, that he hadn’t even seen the tall, proud structure his friends had spent so much time creating. He’d just… crashed right into it.
Leo, usually so cheerful, had a sad frown on his face, his brow furrowed as he looked at the mess. Mia stood beside him, her eyes wide with a mixture of disappointment and concern. Even the usually boisterous elephants, Pip and Penny, were quiet, their big floppy ears drooping. The happy chatter that had filled the classroom just moments before had evaporated, replaced by a heavy silence. Lalito could feel tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. He hadn't *meant* to knock it down. He just wanted to play! But now, his friends were sad, and it was all his fault.
Ms. Bear, with her kind, knowing eyes, had spoken to him softly, her voice like a warm hug. She’d explained how his excitement, though wonderful, needed to be shared with care. She’d helped him understand that when he wasn't careful, his actions could hurt others, even if he didn't mean to. And Lalito, listening to her wise words, had felt a small spark of understanding flicker within him. He didn’t want his friends to be sad. He wanted to make things right.
