Chapter 8
Sol's Gentle Counsel
Sol, ever the supportive friend, tries to guide Sofía towards accepting the reality of their situation. She offers pragmatic advice, encouraging Sofía to focus on her own future and dreams, while holding the secret of Lucas's awareness.
The afternoon sun, usually a warm caress on Sofía’s skin, felt more like a persistent spotlight, highlighting her every anxious twitch. She sat with Sol on their usual bench under the sprawling oak tree at the edge of the school grounds, the air thick with the scent of drying leaves and the distant hum of traffic. She traced the rough bark of the oak with a fingertip, her gaze fixed on the empty road that led away from their town, away from Lucas. The ache in her chest had settled into a dull, persistent throb, a constant reminder of the space he’d left behind.
Sol paused her braiding, her dark eyes soft with understanding. “Yes, Sofía. He’s gone. He’ll be far away by now.” She spoke gently, her tone devoid of judgment, laced only with the quiet empathy that Sofía had come to rely on.
