Twilight's Embrace
As they tentatively explore their connection, Onyx and Xime find solace in the liminal spaces between day and night. Their proximity becomes a comfort, their shared power a growing force.
The air between us hummed, a palpable thing that had nothing to do with the usual animosity. It was a different kind of energy now, a simmering awareness that settled in my bones like a comforting warmth, or a dangerous spark. We were standing on the cusp of twilight, the sky bleeding from a furious orange into bruised purples and soft lavenders. This was our domain, the in-between, the sacred hush where the sun dipped below the horizon and the moon hadn’t yet claimed its full reign.
Xime shifted beside me, his usual restless energy subdued. He wasn't pacing, wasn't cracking wise, wasn't even trying to out-stare me. He was just… present. And I found myself leaning into that presence, a stark contrast to my usual instinct to recoil, to build walls. Being near him, especially now, felt less like a threat and more like a necessity.
“It’s quiet,” he murmured, his voice softer than I’d ever heard it. He wasn’t looking at me, his gaze fixed on the distant mountains, now silhouetted against the fading light.
