The air crackled. It wasn't just the usual tension that hummed between Xime and me, the simmering resentment that had been our constant companion since we were old enough to throw insults. This was different. This was a physical manifestation, a tangible force that seemed to warp the very space around us. We stood in the hushed chamber of Elder Lyra, the ancient stones of the sanctuary absorbing the weight of our newfound, terrifying truth. *Sun and Moon.* The words echoed in my mind, ridiculous and yet, undeniably, true.

Lyra’s gaze, sharp and knowing, swept over us. Her voice, a silken whisper that nonetheless commanded attention, had just finished explaining the delicate cosmic dance we were now unwilling participants in. “The balance,” she’d said, her ancient eyes fixed on me, then Xime, “is not merely a concept. It is a living, breathing entity, and you two are its heartbeats.”

Xime, ever the showman, had scoffed, a flicker of his usual arrogance returning. “So, what? We’re supposed to hold hands and skip through meadows, maintaining the world’s equilibrium?” His tone dripped with sarcasm, but beneath it, I sensed a tremor, a hint of the same unease that coiled in my own gut.
