Lyra’s chambers were a sanctuary of hushed reverence, the air thick with the scent of dried herbs and ancient parchment. Sunlight, muted by stained-glass windows depicting celestial constellations, cast ethereal patterns across the polished obsidian floor. I hated it. The light, even this diluted version, made my skin prickle, a phantom echo of the burning intensity Xime radiated. He, of course, seemed to bask in it, a contented hum vibrating from him as he leaned against a towering bookshelf, his arms crossed.

“So, you’re saying… this is all some cosmic joke?” Xime’s voice, usually a boisterous trumpet, was laced with disbelief. “That every single time I’ve wanted to punch Onyx in his perpetually unimpressed face, it was because… what? The moon was in retrograde?”

Lyra’s smile was gentle, a subtle crinkle at the corners of her eyes. “Not a joke, Xime. A dance. An eternal ballet of opposition and attraction. You are the Sun, the embodiment of day, of fire, of raw, unbridled energy. And Onyx,” she turned her gaze to me, and for a fleeting moment, I felt a warmth bloom in my chest, quickly extinguished by years of ingrained animosity, “is the Moon, the reflection, the calm, the keeper of secrets and shadows.”
