Unanswered Questions
Though safe, Chris is reticent. He struggles to articulate his experiences, leaving many questions about his time with the man unanswered. Why was he taken?
The quiet hum of the refrigerator was the loudest sound in the house, a stark contrast to the frantic symphony of sirens and worried voices that had echoed through Blackwood Creek for days. Chris sat at the kitchen table, a half-eaten bowl of cereal growing soggy before him. His mother, Sarah, hovered nearby, her movements a constant, anxious flutter. His father, David, sat opposite, his gaze fixed on his son, a mixture of relief and a gnawing unease warring in his eyes.
Chris was home. That was the miracle. He was safe, breathing the familiar air of his own kitchen, his small hands clutching a worn teddy bear. Yet, the boy who had returned was not entirely the boy who had been lost. A veil, thin but impenetrable, seemed to hang between him and the world he had left behind.
"Chris, honey, are you hungry?" Sarah’s voice was a fragile thread, stretched taut with unspoken fear.
